Welcome to fifth grade!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to fifth grade! I am delighted to have your child in my class this 2023-2024 school year. We have many new and exciting experiences in store, and I am confident that together we can share in the growth and development of your fifth grader.
As I will be spending the first week of school getting to know your child, I’ll take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. This school year will be my fourteenth year teaching in the Waterloo district. Prior to having my own children, I worked in banking, and when my children were small I was a stay-at-home mom. As soon as my youngest daughter started kindergarten I began substitute teaching. Also, for two years I was a paraprofessional to a student with special needs. Eventually I decided it was time to head back to college again in hopes of having my own classroom. In the spring of 2009 I did my student teaching at Zahnow Elementary, and the following school year I worked two maternity leaves at Rogers Elementary. I feel very fortunate to have become a part of the 5th grade team here at Gardner Elementary, and I am looking forward to another fantastic year.
Kentucky is my home state, but I currently live in Columbia. I have two wonderful daughters and a son-in-law to the mix!
Please feel free to contact me by phone before 8:30 p.m. or by e-mail. My number is 618-407-7348 and my e-mail address is [email protected]. I look forward to a fantastic school year!
Sincerely,
Alicia N. Longust
